This is where the process starts! First you have to find an available name that reflects your business presence.
Domain names are regulated by ICANN - an international agency that controls all domain names. There are a number of different "registrars" that act as brokers for the sale of the domain names. At Frog Web, we normally use GoDaddy.com. They are based in the US and so is their tech support, which can come in handy when there is a problem.
We can either buy the name for you, or you can go to GoDaddy and search and buy the name yourself. |
Some web companies will buy your domain name for you, but they are the registered owners. So what happens if you want to move your business to another service? You can't, unless you change your domain name.
Even if you can arrange a friendly transfer of a domain name, it is a lengthy document, that needs lots of notorized signatures, a fee, and weeks to change owner ship! |
